Join Bellevue State Park for an MLK Day of Service project!
Join Bellevue State Park staff for a volunteer service project to help control invasive plants. The primary target will be wisteria vines in non-target areas, though the project could be expanded.
From the AmeriCorps website:
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. During the last quarter-century, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact increased as more Americans embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities.
Delaware State Parks is one of many organizations that offer opportunities to serve your community on this important holiday.
Invasive plants — plants not native to the region that grow aggressively, complete with native plants for resources, and displace native plants — present a growing challenge to local ecosystems. Join us to learn more about nonnative wisteria vines and to help Bellevue State Park prevent them from spreading to other unintended locations!
Note: Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
