Bellevue State Park

Who We Are

Tucked in the middle of suburban Wilmington sits Bellevue State Park, a former DuPont estate. William Dupont Jr. (1896-1965), the estate's last owner and avid equestrian, transformed this land to include horse stables, indoor horse training facilities, and most notably a 1 ⅛ mile long horse track. Today, the track is used by guests, and encircles meadows, rentable pavilions, and a quaint pond perfect for fishing. William DuPont’s home, Bellevue Hall, stands as the park’s centerpiece, though prior to the 1930s, a Gothic Revival Castle known as Woolton Hall stood in its place. Bellevue Hall is an elegant venue for private events and is surrounded by the Dupont’s collection of trees from around the world. Twelve additional structures that kept the estate self-sustaining can be spotted throughout the park, like the Percheron Barn that watches over the community gardens. Over time, the land evolved to offer guests a chance to also enjoy a round of disc golf through woods and meadows, or a stroll with family, friends, and pets along the paved Northern Greenway Trail.

What We Do

Volunteer Opportunities for Corporate Groups and Other Organizations

Is your organization looking to give back? Would your class, club, or Scout troop like to log service hours outdoors? Let us help plan your service project! Teams of as few as five volunteers can make a huge impact in our parks, and we welcome groups of 20 to 100 — or more.

Bellevue State Park offers a variety of flexible volunteer opportunities that can align with your group’s interests, including:

  • Invasive plant control
  • Garden bed maintenance
  • Playground care
  • Litter cleanups
  • Painting projects

In addition, Fox Point State Park, which is managed by Bellevue State Park, is the site of the annual volunteer events Christina River Watershed Cleanup and DNREC's Delaware Coastal Cleanup.

Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals

Are you looking to connect with your community? Would you enjoy self-led service or the chance to serve our parks alongside like-minded people? Individual volunteers make a sizeable impact in our parks every day.

Friends of Bellevue State Park

Friends of Bellevue State ParkBellevue State Park and Fox Point State Park could not serve their community without the support of Friends of Bellevue State Park. Members of this nonprofit volunteer group put on concerts and other events, steward garden beds, and raise funds as well as advocate and lobby for our parks.
