Wilmington State Parks  

We welcome volunteers who want to save the trees growing in Brandywine Park from strangling vines. Invasive vines like English ivy wrap tightly around and over top trees, eventually killing them. They also make trees more susceptible to breaking branches, rodent damage, and serious diseases. Removing these vines helps to control the spread of invasive plants throughout the park, downstream, and in surrounding neighborhoods.

Come meet others who are passionate about keeping our park healthy for generations to come. No experience is  necessary, as you'll learn plant identification and how to properly manage invasive vines. For more information about invasive vines:

When: Sign up for meeting dates and times

Who: Suitable for individuals and for families with children 12 and over. Parent consent form required for children under 18. Parent or guardian supervision required for children under 16. Also suitable for groups and corporate teams.

Wear: long pants, closed toed shoes and layered clothing that can get dirty and is suitable for the weather.

Bring: hand saws, pruners, loppers, chisels and work gloves.

Location:  The Josephine Fountain 

Parking: Parking Lot at the Brandywine Zoo, 200 N Park, Dr. Wilmington DE 19802.

Inclement Weather Plan: Volunteers should not serve in unsafe conditions, such as during thunderstorms or periods of heavy rain or wind. Members who are approved to work on their own schedules serve at their discretion. The park does not proceed with outdoor group service events if conditions are deemed unsafe; otherwise, whether to proceed is at the group’s discretion.
