Help recover stories of a past life and share the history of the Mispillion Harbor with the public! As a Historical Research and Interpretation Intern, you will work alongside our professional staff and gain hands-on experience in collecting historical information, developing relevant programs, and the chance to deliver your findings to the public. Situated in the Mispillion Harbor Reserve, the DuPont Nature Center is located in an ecologically and culturally significant location and just feet away from a once-renowned (now gone) lighthouse. We want to dig into the local history and bring these stories back to the forefront to preserve for generations onward.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the research, collections, and management of historical materials
- Assist with program creation for child and adult programs
- Aid in the process of reviewing current historical exhibits and developing new exhibit panels
- Conduct programs such as tours and demonstrations
- Greet guests and provide information about historical significance of the Mispillion Harbor
- Other duties as necessary
Required Skills:
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, some remote work possible
- An interest in history, research, and historical interpretation
- Able to do basic research of primary sources, objects, and potential recorded histories
- Professional appearance and demeanor, responsible and trustworthy
- Good customer service skills
- Works well independently or as a cooperative, contributory team member
- Ability to use basic computer equipment and standard Office software programs
- Able to assist with both indoor and outdoor programs
- Organized and detail-oriented
