Description

MLK Day of Service - 75 Years of Stewardship

Part 1 of 4

In honor of the Delaware State Parks' 75th Anniversary, we’re launching a four-part volunteer series throughout 2026 celebrating service, stewardship, and community - and it all begins on MLK Day.

When: January 19th, 2026 (11am- 2pm)
Where: Lums Pond State Park, Mile Loop Trail
What: Trail trimming and Invasive Plant Removal

Join us for a Day of Service as we care for one of the park’s most popular trails! Volunteers will help trim back overgrowth and remove invasive plants along the Mile Loop Trail, improving access while protecting native ecosystems. Although it may seem counterintuitive to trim plants in the winter, often time invasive plant species are easier to identify because they stay green when native species turn brown.

Please Note: Please bring your own:
Closed-toe shoes required
Filled water bottle
Clothes you can get dirty recommended
Sunscreen and Insect Repellent
Pants, long sleeve recommended
Work/Garden gloves (provided if needed)

**Tools such as trash grabbers, loppers, and cutters will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own!

This event marks Part 1 of our 2026 stewardship series, with additional volunteer opportunities coming later in the year. Whether you join us for one event or all four, your efforts will help shape the next 75 years of the park.

Parking Map: Volunteers will meet in the Area 2 parking lot (pink circle) to begin at the Trail Head.

Please note: This event has no scheduled rain date and will be cancelled via email in the case of inclement weather.
