Auburn Valley State Park is comprised of the lands once held by the Marshall family – pioneers of paper milling and vulcanized fiber manufacturing, and prolific industrialists of the 19th century. The park includes the family’s Queen Anne-style home and estate grounds, the Marshall Brothers Paper Mill, the National Vulcanized Fiber plant, the Marshall Steam Museum and nearby Oversee Farm. Formerly the Auburn Heights Preserve, the park was officially added to the Delaware State Parks system in 2018.
We need to clean out the inside of the historic Marshall Paper Mill. This involves clearing trash on the first floor of the mill and disposing into dumpsters and moving/removing scrap metal for future disposal. This project will start at 9 a.m. on July 26th and will stop at 12:00 p.m. We are grateful for whatever time and effort you can spare. This project is being spearheaded by the Friends of Auburn Heights whose work greatly supports the park.
We will also be staging areas inside the Mill for tours this spring and continuing to dispose of trash.
We will provide masks and eye protection. We have some shovels and brooms but if you have a shovel and/or broom please bring it with you. If you have work gloves please bring those as well. We will have some work gloves for those who need them.
Volunteers should wear hard-toe shoes (no running shoes or canvas).
Thank you for your consideration. Please contact me directly with any questions or concerns at Nancy.Kersey@delaware.gov. I am the Manager of Volunteers at the Park.
