The Brandywine Zoo has a variety of gardens that teach visitors about the interrelatedness of the animals under our care and their natural habitats. Once a week, our volunteer gardeners can come together to learn about these gardens and get to know each other better!
On each Gardening Club outing, volunteers can expect to:
- Plant native vegetation
- Add soil, compost, mulch where needed
- Remove weeds, invasive species, and dead plants from the gardens
- Learn about gardening basics, conservation, pollinators, and more
Gloves, tools and experience are welcome but not required. Zoo staff will supply all needed tools, and will assist with plant identification and instruction.
The Brandywine Zoo Gardening Club typically meets for an hour each week at 9am on Thursday mornings. Activities and location will vary each week. Interested volunteers will receive frequent communications from the Manager of Volunteers about upcoming projects.
