Volunteer: Brandywine Zoo Litter Getters!

Become a Litter Getter with the Brandywine Zoo to protect our environment!

This year, we've expanded our litter cleanups to monthly! At each Litter Getter cleanup, volunteers and zoo staff will collect and properly dispose of trash around the zoo, throughout Brandywine Park and along the streets of Wilmington. Litter has several negative impacts on the environment, including contributing to land and water toxicity, harming wildlife, and taking decades or centuries to break down, adding long-lasting microplastics to our natural environment. By joining us in cleaning up litter, you'll not only make your Delaware State Parks prettier, but also reduce these negative impacts!

Tools and gloves are welcome, but not required! We will provide all tools, gloves and trash bags. Please wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Volunteers are encouraged to bring sunscreen and a reusable bottle of water.

Parking: Free in the Brandywine Zoo/Brandywine River Parking Lot

Follow directions to 200 N Park Dr, Wilmington, DE 19802

Meeting Place: Brandywine Zoo Education Building on N. Van Buren Street

The building is across from the zoo's entrance on N. Van Buren Street.

Registration: Registration is encouraged so we can ensure there are enough supplies and tools for all volunteers, but not required. To RSVP or ask questions, please respond to this opportunity or email the manager of volunteers at luvina.cooley@delaware.gov. Questions can also be directed to CommunityEngagement@BrandywineZoo.org.

Interested volunteers may respond to this opportunity as individuals or as a team. Team registrants will enter how many people are part of their team. Children are welcome, but all volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. After you're done cleaning up litter, come visit the Brandywine Zoo and learn about our animals and conservation efforts!
