Wilmington State Parks

Right in the heart of the city, Wilmington State Parks offer recreation along the Brandywine River. Brandywine, Rockford and H. Fletcher Brown parks along with Kentmere Parkway and the Hobbs Property lie under this state park umbrella. The centerpiece, Brandywine River runs through the park and serves as a source of drinking water and recreation for the city and spawning grounds for shad, which were once an important food source to the Lenapes and early European settlers. The Jasper Crane Rose Garden and Josephine Fountain offer gorgeous views within an urban setting. History lives on in Rockford Tower and the Sugar Bowl, as well as memorials that honor those who gave their lives in service to their country and monuments that serve as gathering places. Historic bridges connect the parks to the surrounding communities. Tennis courts, ball fields and fitness stations provide exercise opportunities, and the park also serves as the perfect place for festivals, concerts and picnics.

Volunteer Opportunities for Corporate Groups and Other Organizations

Is your organization looking to give back? Would your class, club, or Scout troop like to log service hours outdoors? Let us help plan your service project! Teams of as few as five volunteers can make a huge impact in our parks, and we welcome groups of 20 to 100 — or more.

• Painting projects
• Litter cleanups

Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals

Are you looking to connect with your community? Would you enjoy self-led service or the chance to serve our parks alongside like-minded people? Individual volunteers make a sizeable impact in our parks every day.

Wilmington State Parks offer a variety of flexible volunteer opportunities that can align with your interests, including:

• Photography

Wilmington State Parks could not serve their community without the support of Friends of Wilmington Parks. Members of this nonprofit volunteer group put on concerts and other events, steward landscape projects in Brandywine Park, and raise funds as well as advocate for our parks.
